London-based AI startup Praktika has secured £28 million in funding to enhance language learning through AI-generated virtual tutors. The funding comes from prominent investors, including Ophelia Brown from Blossom Capital and former Manchester United footballer Patrice Evra. Praktika aims to compete with established platforms like Duolingo by offering personalized language lessons through interactive AI avatars that adapt to users’ accents and learning needs.

Initially, Praktika’s founders focused on creating AI tutors for corporate clients such as AstraZeneca and Coca-Cola. Since its recent launch, the app has garnered 1.2 million users across 100 countries. The funding will help Praktika expand its reach and capabilities in the competitive language learning market.

Ophelia Brown highlighted the startup’s potential, emphasizing Praktika’s rapid growth as a key indicator of its promise in the consumer AI sector. London is positioning itself as a key player in the European AI landscape, with hubs like Kings Cross attracting significant venture capital interest.

Praktika co-founder Adam Turaev stated, “No one should be held back by their struggles to master a language,” illustrating the company’s mission to make language learning accessible through advanced technology.
