Screenless AI Computer Iyo One Unveiled at TED Conference

The Iyo One, a screenless AI-powered computer, was introduced at the TED conference in Vancouver by Jason Rugolo, chief executive of Iyo. The device, intended to be worn in the ear as silicone earbuds, features a voice-controlled operating system and 10 microphones housed in metallic discs for custom-fit.

The Iyo One’s AI ‘agents’ can execute tasks such as searching information, managing grocery lists, and playing music. It also has the capability to enhance and manipulate external sounds, like reducing background noise in a noisy environment and translating speech in real-time.

Unlike traditional digital assistants requiring specific commands, the Iyo One leverages large language models and machine learning to understand user intent and engage in natural conversation. The device aims to lessen screen time and serves as a complement to mobile phones, not a replacement. Developed over six years, the project has raised $21 million in funding.

The Iyo One is expected to come in WiFi and cellular models, priced at $599 and $699 respectively. The device is scheduled for release by Christmas, with plans for third-party app development and initial functionalities including calling and setting timers.
