In a separate development, Loughborough University in the UK has been awarded almost £0.5 million by the Office for Students (OfS) to support postgraduate courses in artificial intelligence (AI) and data science. Launched in 2020 as part of a broader £18 million initiative, this funding targets underrepresented groups such as women, Black students, and those from low socio-economic backgrounds. Scholarships of up to £10,000 are available for four MSc programs—Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics, Cyber Security and Data Analytics, and Digital Finance. This initiative also includes investments in new technology and facilities through the DIGILabs project. Professor Rachel Thomson, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education and Student Experience at Loughborough University, highlighted the importance of such programs in addressing the UK’s growing demand for AI expertise.
