0G introduces Testnet Newton v2, the second iteration of its blockchain testnet for supporting large-scale decentralized AI systems. With new features, stability improvements, and advanced security measures, this release is based on a Cosmos proof-of-stake chain and includes unique data workflow design for improved scalability and decentralised storage.

0G has launched Testnet Newton v2, the second iteration of its blockchain testnet aimed at supporting large-scale decentralized AI systems. This release introduces new features, stability improvements, and enhanced security over Testnet v1.

The new testnet employs a unique “data availability system with a built-in general-purpose storage layer,” dividing the data workflow into a publishing lane and a storage lane. This design allows for high scalability and avoids broadcast bottlenecks, ensuring decentralized storage.

Testnet Newton v2 is based on a Cosmos proof-of-stake chain, enhancing scalability and interoperability. The update includes modules for data availability services and introduces a committee to maintain high performance and reliability. It also offers advanced monitoring features to track storage nodes and key-value stores, alongside improved mechanisms to prevent abuse of the testnet’s faucet system.

The first testnet iteration saw over 600,000 registered wallets, which highlighted the need for a more scalable system. This high engagement led to more than 2,500 validator applications, out of which 121 were selected to ensure testnet integrity.

Michael Heinrich, Co-Founder and CEO of 0G, emphasized that Testnet Newton v2 is a significant upgrade influenced by community feedback and the substantial engagement seen in the first version.

Future updates will focus on mechanisms to detect and prevent plagiarism and the development of flexible policies for validator rotation to ensure network security and to attract new participants.

0G is a Web3 infrastructure provider specializing in modular AI blockchain solutions, boasting data throughputs of up to 50 GB/second while claiming significantly lower costs and higher speeds compared to competitors.
