Apple has announced its new AI-focused initiative, “Apple Intelligence,” at the recent Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) held in California. This marks the tech giant’s significant foray into artificial intelligence, with a variety of new features powered by AI to be integrated into its devices.
Apple Intelligence will be a key component of the upcoming iOS 18, introducing several AI-powered functionalities. Among these updates, the Siri virtual assistant will now be supported by OpenAI’s ChatGPT, enhancing its capabilities across multiple applications. Users can expect it to answer a broader range of questions more accurately.
Additionally, AI-generated emoji, called “Genmoji,” will allow users to create customized emojis by typing a brief description. The Photos app will also feature a new “Clean Up” tool for removing unwanted objects from images, and the “Image Playground” will enable users to create images in seconds.
Notable concerns have been raised about privacy. Elon Musk has voiced his intent to ban Apple devices from his companies over concerns of data privacy once the AI integration rolls out.
The iOS 18 update, expected mid-September, will only be fully functional on devices equipped with the latest AI chips, specifically the A17 Pro in new iPhones or the M1 chip in newer iPads and Macs. Users can enroll in Apple’s Developer Program for early access to a beta version of iOS 18.
