The iconic Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race in Belgium celebrates its 100th year in 2023, with Porsche eyeing its ninth overall win and fielding a strong lineup of drivers in the Pro class among the 67 competing teams.
The 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps, located in Belgium’s Ardennes region, is celebrating its centenary in 2023. The event, one of the most significant in the GT3 racing calendar, will see 67 teams competing, including 24 in the Pro class, which features only professional drivers. Porsche, with a storied history at Spa, is entering six cars in this top category in pursuit of its ninth overall victory. The German manufacturer’s cars have claimed victory in this endurance classic eight times, with recent wins in 2019 and 2020.
The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, measuring 7.004 kilometers and incorporating 21 turns, has been partially resurfaced, introducing new challenges for the teams. This historic track, featuring iconic sections like “Raidillon/Eau Rouge” and the “Blanchimont” downhill passage, demands a meticulous approach to vehicle setup, especially considering its notorious weather variability.
Porsche’s lineup for the 24-strong Pro class includes top drivers like Laurin Heinrich, Thomas Preining, and Laurens Vanthoor. Customer teams fielding Porsche 911 GT3 R cars include Schumacher CLRT, Phantom Global Racing, SSR Herberth, Rutronik Racing, Pure Rxcing, and HubAuto Racing. Additionally, Porsche will contest the Pro-Am, Silver Cup, and Bronze Cup categories, reflecting strong overall participation.
The event runs from June 27-30, with key sessions including free practice, qualifying, and the 24-hour race itself. Coverage of the event will be available on the GT World YouTube channel, with multilingual commentary options.
