Adobe has announced significant updates to Premiere Pro, focusing on AI-powered audio tools set to launch in 2024. New features include interactive fade handles and automatic audio categorization to streamline editing for filmmakers of all levels.

Adobe has announced significant updates to its video editing software, Premiere Pro, set to launch in 2024. The updates, revealed during the Sundance Film Festival and following the 2023 IBC announcements, focus heavily on audio tools, notably featuring new AI-powered capabilities.

Key among these updates is the introduction of interactive fade handles on audio clips. This allows editors to customize audio fades more intuitively by clicking and dragging directly within the timeline. According to Ashley Still, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Adobe Creative Cloud, these improvements aim to make audio editing more accessible and efficient for both novice and professional filmmakers.

Another major addition is an AI-powered audio categorization feature. This function automatically labels audio clips as dialogue, music, sound effects, or ambient noise, streamlining the process for editors. With these tags, users can quickly access relevant tools for each audio type. Adobe is also redesigning clip badges to enhance visibility and ease of use, incorporating clip colors and dynamic resizing as part of the audio editing overhaul.

These features are currently available in a beta update and are expected to be integrated into the main version of Premiere Pro in the coming weeks or months. Additional AI enhancements, including new Enhance Speech tools, are also part of this update. Further details on downloading and using these features can be found on Adobe’s Premiere Pro website.
