A recent study conducted by UK-based law firm Ashurst showcased the benefits of using generative AI platforms in legal work, demonstrating significant time savings and improved support for legal professionals. The comprehensive research involved over 400 participants across 23 offices in 14 countries, with promising results indicating increased efficiency and user satisfaction.
UK-based law firm Ashurst released a comprehensive study on June 10 detailing its trials of three generative AI platforms. The research involved over 400 participants across 23 offices in 14 countries, evaluating the AI tools’ usefulness in legal work.
The study highlighted significant time savings, with drafts of legal briefs taking 45% less time and corporate filings benefiting from up to 80% time reduction. The firm noted these efficiencies allowed lawyers to focus on higher-value tasks, potentially speeding up legal service delivery.
A blind test showed human experts correctly identified all human-generated outputs, while half of the AI outputs were misidentified as human-generated. A post-trial survey indicated that 61% of participants felt more supported in their workload with AI, and 88% felt better prepared for the future.
Ashurst’s Chief Digital Officer, Tara Waters, stated that generative AI offers significant potential for efficiency and new value creation. Waters emphasized the ongoing journey of AI adoption in the legal sector and the importance of collaboration to harness the technology’s benefits.
