Ashurst Publishes Study on Generative AI Trials in Legal Sector
UK-based law firm Ashurst released an in-depth report on June 10 detailing its trials of three generative AI platforms. Conducted across 23 offices in 14 countries, the study included over 400 participants and highlighted both qualitative and quantitative findings.
Key findings show that generative AI can significantly improve efficiency in legal drafting tasks. The firm reported time savings averaging 45% for initial legal briefings and up to 80% for corporate filings requiring information extraction. This translated into a 2.5-hour time reduction per draft, allowing legal professionals to focus on more high-value tasks.
An expert blind study revealed that while all human-generated outputs were correctly identified, only half of the AI-generated content was distinguished as non-human by the panel. Additionally, 61% of survey respondents felt more supported in workload management due to gen AI, and 88% felt better prepared for future challenges.
Ashurst’s Chief Digital Officer, Tara Waters, emphasized the significant potential of generative AI for efficiency and new value creation. She noted the importance of ongoing testing and collaboration across the legal industry to leverage these technologies effectively.
