Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates discussed the future of artificial intelligence (AI) during the debut episode of Nikhil Kamath’s new podcast series, “People by WTF.” Gates highlighted AI’s potential to significantly influence various industries, particularly software engineering, while addressing fears of job displacement by the technology.

Gates praised AI’s capabilities, noting, “The amazing thing about this technology is that we know it can help in key areas, and we know it can create educational tutors.” He mentioned several successful projects in India and the US demonstrating AI’s potential to enhance education and productivity.

Despite AI’s advancements, Gates reassured that the demand for software engineers would persist. “We still need those software engineers as we are not going to stop needing them,” he stated, countering concerns about AI-induced job displacement as “alarmist.”

Although he acknowledged that AI could potentially reach a level to replace all jobs, Gates considered this outcome unlikely in the next two decades, leaving the long-term implications open to speculation.
