Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates shares insights on the transformative capacity of AI and its impact on software engineering in the first episode of Nikhil Kamath’s new podcast series ‘People by WTF’. Gates dismisses fears of AI replacing software engineers in the near future and highlights the continued importance of their roles amidst technological advancements.

In the inaugural episode of Zerodha founder Nikhil Kamath’s new podcast series “People by WTF,” Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates discussed the future of artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential implications for various industries, especially software engineering. Gates highlighted the transformative capacity of AI, emphasizing its potential to enhance productivity and revolutionize education.

Gates dismissed fears that AI might soon replace software engineers, labeling such concerns as “alarmist.” He asserted that software engineers will continue to be essential despite the advancements in AI technology. Gates remarked, “We still need those software engineers as we are not going to stop needing them.”

While he acknowledged the possibility that AI could one day replace all jobs, Gates suggested that this scenario is unlikely within the next two decades. He noted, “Although I am not sure of that,” indicating some uncertainty about the long-term effects of AI.
