Cognizant introduces innovative AI solutions in partnership with Google Cloud to enhance efficiency and experiences in the healthcare industry. The new suite of solutions aims to address critical areas within healthcare workflows, offering automation and intelligent data processing for improved operational performance.

Cognizant Introduces AI-Driven Solutions for Healthcare Industry

Teaneck, NJ – 13 June 2024: In a significant move towards advancing healthcare technology, Cognizant has launched its first set of healthcare large language model (LLM) solutions, powered by Google Cloud’s generative AI technology. This initiative is part of an ongoing partnership aimed at addressing key areas within the healthcare value chain to streamline operations and improve patient and provider experiences.

The collaboration between Cognizant and Google Cloud, which was expanded last August, has culminated in these AI-driven solutions that leverage Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform and Gemini models. The solutions aim to tackle the increasing complexity and demands faced by healthcare systems by enhancing operational efficiencies and service quality.

Cognizant was recently recognised by Google Cloud, receiving the “2024 Industry Solution Services Partner of the Year – Healthcare and Life Sciences” award. This accolade underscores the company’s success in supporting digital transformation in healthcare and life sciences sectors through the utilisation of advanced AI technologies.

AI Solutions Aimed at Administrative Efficiency

The new suite of LLM solutions targets four critical and high-cost areas in healthcare workflows, offering a mix of automation and intelligent data processing to improve efficiency and accuracy:

  1. Appeals Resolution Assistant: This tool automates the data retrieval, analysis, and interpretation processes involved in managing healthcare appeals. By reducing the subjective and error-prone nature of manual processes, the system enhances productivity and consistency, potentially transforming the way healthcare payers handle appeals.

  2. Contract Management Solution: Designed to optimise the lifecycle of healthcare contracts, this solution automates the review, generation, and configuration of contracts. This reduces manual errors and inconsistencies, thereby speeding up the contracting process and increasing overall productivity for healthcare payers.

  3. Marketing Content Assistant: This solution supports healthcare marketing teams by automating the creation of content for various purposes, such as product launches and corporate communications. By streamlining content generation, it ensures consistent and high-quality messaging, which helps strengthen brand presence.

  4. Health Plan Shopper: Aimed at empowering healthcare members, this tool combines individual preferences with clinical and payer data to aid in making informed healthcare plan choices. By integrating diverse information sources, it simplifies plan selection and enhances the overall healthcare experience.

“By deploying these innovative solutions, we are helping healthcare organisations set new standards in care delivery and improve the experiences of those they serve,” commented Surya Gummadi, EVP and President of Cognizant Americas. The goal is to keep clients in the healthcare industry at the forefront of AI-led transformation.

Impact and Future Prospects

Amy Waldron, Director of Healthcare and Life Sciences Industry at Google Cloud, emphasised the potential of AI to provide more efficient and effective experiences for all healthcare stakeholders. She noted that these tailored solutions could significantly reduce administrative burdens and streamline various manual tasks, ultimately improving operational efficiency and satisfaction levels.

Rohan Kulkarni, executive research leader at HFS, added that generative AI’s impact on managing and delivering healthcare could be substantial, potentially reimagining current processes and introducing new paradigms in care.

The new healthcare LLM solutions were showcased at the 2024 Cognizant Health Sciences Conference in Kissimmee, FL, demonstrating their practical applications and significant potential benefits.

As a Global Systems Integrator partner for Google Cloud, Cognizant is committed to privacy and security, adhering to responsible AI principles and robust data governance standards.

This development highlights the ongoing efforts to integrate sophisticated AI technologies into healthcare, aiming for streamlined operations and improved outcomes across the industry.
