British pop star Daniel Bedingfield, known for hits like ‘Gotta Get Thru This,’ announces his comeback in music with a new AI-generated album, praising the technology’s ability to capture the essence of his work and revolutionize music creation.
British pop star Daniel Bedingfield has announced a return to music with the release of a new album created using artificial intelligence (AI). Known for his early 2000s hits like “Gotta Get Thru This,” Bedingfield, 44, expressed his support for AI in music, stating it can capture the “soul” of his work. Speaking at the AI, Music and the Human Spirit event in London, organized by the University of Southampton at the Royal Society, Bedingfield shared that his latest drum and bass (D&B) album, which integrates AI, is his best in 20 years.
Bedingfield highlighted that AI offers “unrestricted and unfettered creativity” and allows young and upcoming artists to create music from their bedrooms without extensive resources. He remarked that AI could be challenging for traditional musicians, referencing iconic artists like Stevie Wonder and Prince. Additionally, he founded Hooks, a tech start-up focused on pioneering AI in music and video content. Bedingfield believes this technological shift marks a disruptive moment in music history, pointing out that “anyone can create music in 20 seconds” using AI.
