Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has expressed worries about OpenAI potentially accessing his phone, citing security risks related to the integration of OpenAI’s technology into devices like iPhones. Musk is considering banning iPhones from his companies and exploring the development of a more secure ‘X phone’ in collaboration with Samsung.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has expressed concerns about the potential for OpenAI to access his phone. This follows the recent appointment of former US Cyber Command chief Paul Nakasone to OpenAI’s board of directors.
Musk voiced his concerns in a post on X (formerly Twitter). His apprehension has been amplified by Apple’s integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT into iPhones, prompting Musk to consider banning iPhones from his companies due to security concerns.
Nakasone’s appointment and his role on the Safety and Security Committee have heightened Musk’s anxieties. Nakasone has emphasized his commitment to protecting OpenAI from increasingly sophisticated threats.
Musk believes that integrating OpenAI’s technology at the operating system level could jeopardize user privacy and security. He has even suggested that visitors to his companies might need to store their Apple devices in Faraday cages.
Musk is reportedly collaborating with Samsung to develop an alternative “X phone,” positioning it as a more secure option compared to iPhones.
