A study by IT consultant SoftServe, in partnership with Forrester Consulting, uncovers challenges faced by businesses in deriving value from Generative AI (Gen AI) despite increased usage. Internal constraints and industry insights reveal hurdles to efficient Gen AI adoption, impacting businesses globally.

Generative AI Adoption Faces Challenges Despite Increased Enthusiasm: SoftServe Study

LONDON, United Kingdom, June 27, 2024 – A study by IT consultant SoftServe, in collaboration with Forrester Consulting, reveals that businesses are experiencing less value from Generative AI (Gen AI) than anticipated, despite its growing use. Conducted 18 months after the release of ChatGPT, the study surveyed 777 technology purchasing decision-makers globally.

Key Findings:
– Only 22% of organizations effectively use Gen AI across all business functions.
– Over half of decision-makers set business goals for Gen AI, but 79% doubt their ability to meet these objectives due to a lack of expertise.
– 75% face challenges with Gen AI skill readiness, influencing their ability to expand use cases beyond pilot stages.

Internal Constraints:
– Only 42% can train Gen AI models, and 89% struggle with data preparation.
– Less than 24% have governance plans, though 90% recognize its necessity for responsible AI use.

Industry Insights:
– Retail industries show the highest readiness for Gen AI, while financial services face more challenges.
– The U.S. leads in unlocking Gen AI value, followed by the UK, Singapore, and Germany.

Despite these hurdles, enthusiasm remains strong, with organizations planning multiple additional use cases in the next 12-18 months.
