Research teams in Australia, South Korea, North Carolina, and China are pioneering advancements in infrared technology, UV metasurfaces, light confinement, and brain-computer interfaces. Chief technology officers in the insurance sector are also embracing generative artificial intelligence for future development.

Researchers in multiple countries are making groundbreaking advancements across various technological fields.

In Australia, a research team has developed an enhanced infrared (IR) filter using nonlinear upconversion and a non-local lithium niobate metasurface. This innovation is expected to extend the capabilities of night vision technology beyond traditional applications.

Meanwhile, in South Korea, researchers have achieved a significant breakthrough in UV metasurfaces. By using nanopatterning and nanoimprint lithography, they have identified the optimal conditions for the mass production of UV holograms.

In North Carolina, researchers have experimentally demonstrated the confinement of IR light, a concept long held in theory. This advancement holds potential for revolutionizing imaging and nanophotonic technologies.

China is rapidly advancing its brain-computer interface (BCI) technology, aiming to become a global leader in the field. These developments are part of the country’s 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025), which aims to foster innovation in brain-like intelligence and other cutting-edge technologies. The plan includes strategies for the incubation and acceleration of future industries.

In the insurance sector, chief technology officers are shifting their focus from roadmaps to ambitious goals involving generative artificial intelligence (AI). This change was highlighted during Insurance Post’s first AI Week, reflecting the sector’s evolving landscape and forward-looking aspirations.
