India’s travel and tourism sector is set to experience significant job growth, with projections of 58.2 million new positions by 2033. This surge is attributed to increased travel demand and India’s rise as a top travel destination, post-pandemic recovery, and consistent economic contribution from the sector.

In December 2023, Foreign Exchange Earnings from tourism were Rs. 24,707 crores, a notable increase from previous years. The industry contributed Rs. 15.9 trillion to the Indian economy in 2022, with an estimate of Rs. 16.5 trillion for 2023.

Sectors like airlines, hotels, tour operators, and restaurants have expanded their workforce to meet demand. Ancillary industries, including transportation and retail, have also benefited, particularly in tourist hotspots such as Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra. Emerging locations like Gujarat and West Bengal are also expected to see increased job creation.
