Kristal Angeles, a graduate from NIU, has been chosen as a Fulbright Luxembourg English Teaching Assistant for the upcoming school year. Her passion for international education was inspired by her experiences in Indonesia and guidance from educators like James Cohen.
Kristal Angeles, a graduate from Northern Illinois University (NIU) with a B.S.Ed. in Elementary Education and an ESL endorsement, has been selected as a Fulbright Luxembourg English Teaching Assistant for the 2024-2025 school year. Angeles, a fifth-grade ESL teacher at WJ Murphy Elementary School in Round Lake, Illinois, attributes her growing interest in international education to her experiences through the NIU College of Education’s Educate Global program in Indonesia and guidance from professors like James Cohen.
Cohen, a Fulbright Scholar to Uruguay in 2018, first met Angeles during an online multicultural education class and was impressed by her enthusiasm and ability to engage her peers. Angeles’s goal is to enhance her French proficiency and understand the multilingual education system in Luxembourg, anticipating that this experience will enrich her ESL teaching practice back in Illinois.
The Fulbright Program, established in 1946, aims to foster international understanding through educational exchanges. As a Fulbright recipient, Angeles looks forward to providing insight into effective multilingual education practices and building a global network to further her aspirations in international education.
