Lenovo introduces LISSA, an AI-driven tool to assist businesses in making environmentally conscious IT choices. Harnessing Generative AI, LISSA offers insights into carbon emissions and suggests pathways for reducing environmental impact, aligning with Lenovo’s goal for net-zero GHG emissions by 2050.
Lenovo Introduces AI-Based Tool to Aid IT Sustainability Efforts
Morrisville, NC — Lenovo has unveiled a new artificial intelligence-powered tool designed to assist businesses in making more sustainable IT decisions. Announced on April 22, 2024, Lenovo’s Intelligent Sustainability Solutions Advisor (LISSA) aims to offer companies detailed insights into the carbon emissions associated with their IT operations and suggest customised pathways to reduce their environmental impact.
LISSA harnesses Generative AI technology to provide visibility over the estimated carbon footprint of various IT solutions offered by Lenovo. These solutions include services such as TruScale Device as a Service (DaaS), Asset Recovery, packaging efficiencies, lower-carbon shipping options, lifecycle extensions, and certified refurbishment. The AI tool not only estimates emissions but also simulates different sustainability scenarios, helping businesses choose the most carbon-efficient options.
A survey by Boston Consulting Group highlighted in the announcement revealed that 87% of executives believe AI can significantly aid in addressing climate issues. The potential for AI to unlock insights that may help mitigate global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions underscores the growing interest in technology-fueled sustainability.
Claudia Contreras, Executive Director of Global Sustainability Services for Lenovo, emphasised the importance of viewing sustainability as a crucial business priority. “With LISSA, we aim to place sustainability attributes at the forefront of IT decision-making processes,” Contreras said. She added that the tool would enable businesses to uncover possible emission reduction opportunities and adopt IT solutions aligned with their sustainability agendas.
Lenovo’s commitment to sustainability is further evidenced by its goal to achieve net-zero GHG emissions by 2050. This target is validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) through their Net-Zero Standard. By introducing LISSA, Lenovo hopes to empower its customers to make data-backed, sustainable IT choices that produce measurable outcomes.
Contreras also pointed out that each company’s journey toward sustainability is unique, necessitating tailored data and strategies to track progress. Lenovo aims to support organisations of all sizes by comparing different IT solutions in real-time and designing comprehensive IT strategies that balance budget, computing needs, and sustainability goals.
Lenovo’s new AI tool comes at a time when businesses globally are increasingly adopting digital transformation and sustainability initiatives. The expectation is that tools like LISSA will help bridge the gap between these two important objectives by providing actionable data.
As a global technology company generating $62 billion in revenue, Lenovo is listed in the Fortune Global 500 and operates in 180 markets worldwide. Known primarily as the world’s largest PC maker, Lenovo has diversified into areas like server, storage, mobile, software, solutions, and services. This expansion is part of its broader vision to advance ‘New IT’ technologies, which include client, edge, cloud, network, and intelligence.
