Billerica-based PolyJoule, Inc. has been selected to participate in the Amazon Web Services Clean Energy Accelerator 4.0, aimed at driving innovations in clean energy and sustainability.

Local Startup Earns Spot in Prestigious AWS Clean Energy Accelerator Programme

Billerica, Mass.— PolyJoule, Inc., a Billerica-based startup specialising in battery energy storage systems, has been chosen to join the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Clean Energy Accelerator 4.0. The company, selected from over 800 candidates across 74 countries, is one of just 21 startups to participate in the high-profile program.

The AWS Clean Energy Accelerator 4.0 is a non-equity dilutive programme aimed at accelerating the development and deployment of clean energy innovations to support enterprise customers in their efforts to decarbonise at scale. This iteration of the accelerator emphasises the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI), encompassing key areas such as sustainability, clean energy, alternative fuels, water tech acceleration, energy storage, and grid modernisation and security.

Howard Gefen, General Manager of Energy and Utilities at AWS, expressed enthusiasm about PolyJoule’s selection. “We’re pleased to welcome PolyJoule into the Clean Energy Accelerator 4.0 as we work together to accelerate energy transitions through generative AI and grid modernization,” Gefen stated. He underscored the importance of collaboration in achieving net-zero goals.

Eli Paster, co-founder and CEO of PolyJoule, also voiced his excitement. “Through this programme, we can help define and shape the future of clean energy innovation,” Paster said. PolyJoule develops and manufactures novel battery energy storage systems using non-metallic, conductive polymer anodes, cathodes, and cells. According to Paster, these systems have been operational in industrial settings for more than two years, aiding large customers in reducing carbon emissions while addressing critical energy challenges and cost efficiency.

The AWS Clean Energy Accelerator 4.0 aims to streamline the creation and adoption of clean energy solutions globally. Participants will engage in immersion sprints and workshops designed to foster pilot opportunities and present their advancements to a broad audience of industry leaders, experts, and potential investors.

Amazon Operations Sustainability is also involved in the program as a piloting partner, focusing on innovative solutions for low carbon building, circular economy, fleet, and low carbon fuel technologies.

The accelerator programme, announced at COP28 and initiated in March 2024, is poised to play a vital role in hastening the transition to sustainable energy solutions. By collaborating with global energy organisations, the programme will push forward customer trials, pilots, and partnerships aimed at making a significant impact on the clean energy landscape.

PolyJoule’s participation promises to be a crucial step not only for the startup but also for the broader clean energy technology sector as it grapples with the need for efficient, large-scale energy storage solutions to balance the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources.
