MagicSchool AI has raised $15 million in funding to enhance its AI platform for educators and students. The company aims to alleviate teacher workloads and prepare students for an AI-centric future through innovative tools and responsible usage of AI technology.

MagicSchool AI Secures $15 Million for Educational Technology Expansion

DENVER – In a significant development for the educational technology sector, MagicSchool AI announced it has raised $15 million in a Series A funding round. The funding was spearheaded by Bain Capital Ventures, with participation from Adobe Ventures, Common Sense Media, and individual investors including Replit founder Amjad Masad, among others. This financial boost is set to aid the company’s growth and the development of new AI functionalities aimed at both educators and students.

Amid ongoing teacher shortages and widespread burnout, educators have increasingly turned to technological solutions to alleviate some of the burdens that accompany their roles. MagicSchool AI seeks to address these issues through its innovative platform, which supports various tasks for teachers and fosters AI literacy among students.

Christina Melas-Kyriazi, partner at Bain Capital Ventures, highlighted the potential of AI in education: “AI has an enormous opportunity in education – both to alleviate the burden of heavy teacher workloads and to enable personalized education for every student. MagicSchool AI continues to innovate and develop new offerings to match this opportunity.”

Tools for Teachers

MagicSchool for Teachers allows educators to utilise natural language processing to perform over 50 tasks, including quiz generation, text modification for different reading levels, lesson planning, and word problem creation. The platform is designed to seamlessly integrate into a teacher’s workflow, thereby saving time and reducing stress.

Student Preparedness for the AI Future

Significantly, MagicSchool for Students aims to prepare the younger generation for an AI-centric future. Students can engage with tasks such as translations, summaries, writing feedback, tutoring, and math reviews. Teachers can control which tasks are available to students, ensuring responsible and educationally sound usage of AI tools. Instead of resorting to blanket bans on generative AI, the platform focuses on responsible usage to equip students with essential AI competencies.

Remarkable Growth

Since its launch less than a year ago, MagicSchool AI has attracted over 2 million educators. Additionally, more than 3,000 schools and districts have partnered with the platform. Key partners include Atlanta Public Schools, Aurora Public Schools, Seattle Public Schools, and private and charter schools such as High Tech High, Choate Rosemary Hall, and KIPP Chicago Public Schools.

Founded by an Educator

The brain behind MagicSchool AI, Adeel Khan, has firsthand experience in the education sector. Having served as a teacher and principal, and establishing a successful public school, Khan founded the company with the goal of creating tools that would have been beneficial during his time in the classroom. His vision is driven by the belief that AI has the potential to ease teacher workloads while simultaneously preparing students for a future where AI literacy is essential.

Future Expansion Plans

The recent funding will enable MagicSchool AI to expand its toolkit further and increase its team size. The company plans to build upon its current features such as lesson plan creation, classroom activity development, and instruction personalization.

In a rapidly evolving educational landscape, MagicSchool AI’s efforts to integrate AI responsibly and effectively into classrooms represent a significant step forward. The company’s approach not only aims to mitigate the prevalent issue of teacher burnout but also seeks to equip students with crucial skills for an AI-dominated future.
