In the debut episode of ‘People by WTF,’ Bill Gates explores the transformative potential of AI in various industries, emphasising its role in education and productivity while dispelling fears of it replacing software engineers in the near future.

In the first episode of Zerodha founder Nikhil Kamath’s new podcast series “People by WTF,” Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates discussed the future of artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential impact on various industries, with a particular focus on software engineering. Gates highlighted AI’s transformative potential but reassured listeners it is not expected to replace software engineers in the near future.

Gates pointed to AI’s capacity to create educational tutors and enhance productivity across different sectors. He referenced successful projects in India and the US as evidence of AI’s educational benefits. Despite the potential AI holds, Gates labelled fears of it displacing software engineers as “alarmist,” asserting the ongoing necessity for these professionals.

While acknowledging the possibility of AI eventually replacing all jobs, Gates expressed skepticism that this could happen within the next two decades, leaving the long-term impact of AI open to speculation.
