OrthoSelect Partners with Relu to Integrate AI and CBCT Technologies for Enhanced Orthodontic Treatments

OrthoSelect and Relu have teamed up to merge their advanced technologies, DIBS AI and the Relu Engine, providing orthodontists with a 3D view of dental structures for improved treatment planning. The collaboration aims to streamline orthodontic procedures and offer a comprehensive tool for visualising tooth and bone structures.

OrthoSelect, a provider of cutting-edge orthodontic solutions, has announced a new partnership with Relu, a Belgium-based firm specialising in artificial intelligence (AI) applications in dental treatments. This collaboration aims to integrate OrthoSelect’s DIBS AI software with Relu’s CBCT visualisation software, known as the Relu Engine.

The integration is set to provide orthodontists with an enhanced, three-dimensional (3D) perspective of patients’ dental structures, which includes teeth, roots, bone formations, and airways. This enhanced visibility is expected to facilitate improved treatment planning and potentially expedite treatment durations.

Technological Synergy

The amalgamation of DIBS AI and the Relu Engine offers practitioners a comprehensive tool to visualise and model tooth and bone structures. This capability could assist in reducing repositioning and avoiding clinical issues such as fenestrations, dehiscence, and root collisions.

With the digital prescription form for DIBS AI, users can easily integrate a patient’s DICOM image from a CBCT scan. The integration processes the image alongside an intraoral scan, which is then included in the case setup for the orthodontist’s review. Notably, the CBCT integration is an optional feature, available for individual cases without needing long-term commitments.

Launch and Statements

The new integrated platform will be made available to DIBS AI users starting in early May 2024. Speaking about the collaboration, OrthoSelect President Steven Gardner expressed enthusiasm, highlighting the complementary nature of the two systems. “We are thrilled to be working with Relu to further enhance the practice of orthodontics and allow doctors to take treatment planning to the next level,” Gardner noted.

Relu’s CEO and Co-founder, Holger Wilhems, echoed these sentiments, stating, “The partnership between DIBS AI and Relu is changing the game in digital braces. We’re really proud that DIBS AI has added the CBCT power of the Relu Engine, finally allowing orthodontists to see beyond the crown.”

About the Technologies

The DIBS AI software platform is designed to simplify and automate the setup and treatment processes for orthodontic cases. It aims to create predictive outcomes based on different bracket prescriptions and provides flexibility for 3D printing bracket transfer appliances. According to OrthoSelect, these features can streamline bonding appointments and overall treatment times, potentially reducing the orthodontist’s cost by approximately 25%.

Relu, founded in 2019 and based in Leuven, Belgium, focuses on incorporating AI into existing dental workflows to enhance the safety and efficiency of orthodontic and implant treatments. The company collaborates with major dental software entities across the US, EU, and APAC regions.

Regulatory and Contact Information

DIBS AI has received FDA clearance under section 510(k) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and holds a patent issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Relu continues to work with dental software companies to ensure that advanced AI technologies are accessible to dental professionals globally.

For more details about the new CBCT integration feature or to schedule a demonstration of the DIBS AI platform, interested parties are encouraged to visit the official websites or contact the companies directly.
