The latest report by Palo Alto Networks delves into the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence in cloud security, highlighting key findings such as AI adoption rates in India, concerns about AI-powered threats, challenges in tool consolidation, and global disparities in cloud spending. The report stresses the need for organisations to balance AI innovation with robust security measures to address emerging cyber threats.
Palo Alto Networks has released its Cloud Native Security Report for 2024, which highlights key trends and challenges in cloud security, particularly surrounding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The report is based on research conducted across 10 countries and involved feedback from over 2,800 cloud security and DevOps professionals.
Key findings from the report include:
-
AI Adoption: India is a leading adopter of AI, with 58% of Indian respondents reporting extensive use of AI for code optimization, second only to Singapore at 60%.
-
AI Threats: Security professionals are concerned about AI-powered threats, with 43% believing these could bypass traditional detection methods. Furthermore, 47% of global respondents are worried about AI-driven supply chain attacks.
-
Tool Consolidation: Organizations are using an average of 16 cloud security tools from 14 different vendors, and 91% of global respondents identify blind spots as a significant challenge, complicating risk management.
-
Legacy Cloud Applications: In India, 42% of respondents allocate a significant portion (30% or more) of their cloud Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) to optimize legacy applications, ensuring these older systems integrate with modern cloud technologies efficiently.
-
Cloud Spending: Cloud investment varies globally. In India, 41% of organizations spend less than $10 million annually on cloud computing, similar to Brazil (40%) and Japan (43%). In contrast, countries like the United States and United Kingdom have significant investments in moderate ranges, while Australia, Mexico, and Singapore show high cloud spending. France and Germany adopt a cautious yet mature investment approach.
Anil Valluri, MD and VP India & SAARC at Palo Alto Networks, emphasized the dual challenges and opportunities AI presents. He noted that India’s swift AI adoption could drive innovation but also raise the risk of AI-powered attacks, stressing the need for robust security measures and comprehensive solutions.
The report underlines the importance for organizations to balance innovative use of AI in cloud computing with the implementation of strong security strategies to mitigate emerging threats.
