Pegasystems Inc. introduces Pega GenAI Socrates, a new AI tool aimed at transforming corporate learning by providing dynamic and personalised experiences. The tool adapts to learners’ needs and uses the Socratic method for engagement and knowledge retention, setting it apart from traditional learning methods.

Pega Launches AI Tutor to Revolutionise Corporate Learning

LAS VEGAS, 10 June 2024 – Pegasystems Inc., a leading provider of enterprise AI decisioning and workflow automation, has introduced a new generative AI tool designed to transform corporate learning. Announced at PegaWorld iNspire, the Pega GenAI Socrates aims to offer a more dynamic and personalised learning experience for Pega clients and partners.

Adapting to Learning Needs

The Pega GenAI Socrates is designed to facilitate an interactive dialogue with learners, adapting to their industry-specific needs, skill levels, and learning preferences. This approach marks a significant shift from traditional lecture-based methods, which often fail to engage learners and frequently result in low knowledge retention rates. Traditional methods, critics argue, tend to deliver one-size-fits-all content and rely on memorisation, leading to a high rate of forgotten information—up to 90% within a month, according to some metrics.

In contrast, Pega’s new tutor uses the Socratic method, characterised by two-way conversations and open-ended questions, aiming to mimic the engagement of a human teacher. By analysing real-time responses, the AI adapts its content to target individual knowledge gaps, helping learners understand and retain information more effectively.

Key Features

Several key features set Pega GenAI Socrates apart from existing corporate learning tools:

  1. Deep Skill Ingraining: By utilising real-life scenarios and immediate application of newly acquired skills, the tool seeks to move beyond passive learning formats such as multiple-choice questions. Multimedia elements, including videos and voice interactions, are also employed to boost engagement.

  2. Adaptive Learning: The AI adjusts its lessons based on the learner’s responses, focusing on areas where they need more support and bypassing well-understood concepts. This personalised approach extends to incorporating industry-specific examples relevant to the learner’s professional background.

  3. On-Demand Learning: The platform supports non-linear, on-demand learning, allowing users to engage with the content at their convenience. This flexibility is designed to alleviate the fatigue associated with extended periods of study.

Availability and Future Integration

Pega GenAI Socrates is currently available in select Pega Academy courses, starting with the System Architect mission. The company plans to expand its availability shortly. Additionally, this AI tutor will feature in Pega Flex, a hybrid learning model that combines instructor-led training with Pega Academy’s online content. The tool supports education in 10 languages, including English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German, Dutch, Swedish, Polish, and Japanese.

Mary Tafuri, Vice President of Global Go-To-Market Enablement and Effectiveness at Pega, highlighted the growing demand for Pega skills globally, stating, “Pega GenAI Socrates not only meets this demand but also delivers a modern, personalised learning experience that uniquely replicates human teaching on a massive scale. This is just the beginning of what we think Pega GenAI Socrates can do for our employees, clients, and partners.”

Context

Pega Academy, which forms the backbone of Pega’s educational initiatives, has been providing comprehensive training content, hands-on exercises, and industry-recognised certifications. With the integration of the generative AI tutor, Pega aims to enhance self-directed learning, making it more effective and scalable.

Conclusion

The introduction of Pega GenAI Socrates could represent a significant shift in corporate learning methodologies, leveraging AI to offer a more personalised and impactful educational experience. As the tool becomes more broadly integrated within Pega’s training programmes, its potential for improving workforce skills and satisfaction will be closely watched by industry experts and educational technologists alike.
