Starting September 1, 2023, multimedia artist Refik Anadol debuts his AI-generated digital art on the exterior of the Sphere event space in Las Vegas. This marks the first time the Exosphere, the programmable LED surface of the Sphere, will display such an artwork. The project, titled “Machine Hallucinations: Sphere,” is an exploration of humanity’s quest to understand space, presented through intricate visual patterns derived from over 300 million images of flora and fauna.
Refik Anadol, originally from Istanbul, Turkey, highlights his excitement about using this cutting-edge architectural space as his canvas. The Sphere, renowned for its nearly 580,000 square feet of fully-programmable LED paneling, is touted by its operators as the largest screen of its kind globally.
Sphere Entertainment Co. plans for this initiative to redefine live entertainment and provide a unique platform for artists and brands. Guy Barnett, Senior Vice President of Brand Strategy and Creative Development, emphasizes that this combination of art and commerce aims to alter their coexistence fundamentally.
