Anthropic, a start-up specialised in generative artificial intelligence based in San Francisco, is on the brink of securing $300 million in new funding, showcasing the ongoing investor interest in A.I. start-ups. This potential deal could value the company at around $5 billion, reflecting the growing investments in the generative A.I. sector.

Anthropic, a San Francisco-based start-up specializing in generative artificial intelligence, is reportedly close to securing $300 million in new funding. This deal, which indicates the prevalent investor enthusiasm for A.I. start-ups, could value the company at approximately $5 billion.

Founded in 2021, Anthropic had previously raised $704 million, achieving a valuation of $4 billion. The new funding tier follows recent substantial investments in the generative A.I. sector, including Microsoft’s $10 billion stake in OpenAI, the creators of the ChatGPT chatbot.

Generative A.I., capable of producing text, images, and other media based on short prompts, has sparked considerable interest in Silicon Valley. Other companies in the space, such as Character.AI, Replika, and You.com, are also receiving significant investor attention. Despite the fervor, many start-ups are still figuring out how to turn these technologies into profitable ventures.

Anthropic’s funding talks are particularly notable due to its initial backing from Sam Bankman-Fried and his associates at FTX, a cryptocurrency platform that went bankrupt amidst fraud allegations. This relationship could complicate Anthropic’s financial future as funds might be reclaimed through bankruptcy proceedings.
