Screenless AI Computer “Iyo One” Introduced
Vancouver, April 2024: At the recent TED conference, Jason Rugolo, CEO of Iyo, unveiled the Iyo One, a wearable “audio computer” designed to fit in a user’s ear. The device features an AI-powered operating system controlled by voice commands and includes custom-fit silicone earbuds containing 10 microphones.
The Iyo One enables users to ask AI “agents” to perform tasks like searching for information, running through grocery lists, enhancing sounds from the outside world, playing music, and even translating speech in real-time. Unlike Siri, it aims to understand natural conversation through advanced machine learning.
The concept emerged from Rugolo’s vision to reduce screen time while complementing smartphones rather than replacing them. Initial development began six years ago under Google’s parent company Alphabet before Rugolo continued independently, raising $21 million in funding.
Iyo plans to release WiFi and cellular models priced at $599 and $699, respectively, by Christmas. Rugolo aims for quality over meeting deadlines and is open to integrating third-party applications, including those from Spotify, Google, and Amazon.
