Sebastian Gierlinger, Vice President of Engineering at Storyblok, highlights the need for caution when utilising AI chatbots in work settings. Citing concerns about data privacy and security, Gierlinger advises against sharing sensitive information with AI systems and recommends implementing strict guidelines for AI usage in companies.

Sebastian Gierlinger, Vice President of Engineering at Storyblok, discusses the implications of using artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots in work processes. Storyblok, an Austrian content management company, has clients such as Netflix, Tesla, and Adidas.

Gierlinger emphasizes the importance of exercising caution when interacting with AI chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude, and Perplexity AI. He compares using these chatbots to social media, advising users to avoid sharing personal or financial details, as these interactions can be used to train future models and potentially leak sensitive information.

Companies are increasingly implementing AI guidelines. At Storyblok, employees are prohibited from uploading confidential information, such as salaries and business strategies, to any AI systems. Furthermore, AI-generated code must be reviewed by human developers before being stored in company repositories.

Despite the growing use of AI in workplaces, Gierlinger notes that approximately 75% of companies do not yet have an AI policy. He warns employees against using personal AI accounts to handle company data, as this could inadvertently expose confidential information.

Gierlinger advises against blindly trusting all AI chatbots. While he has confidence in major AI developers like OpenAI, he cautions against using homegrown AI systems, which may not have robust security measures. He stresses the importance of not sharing overly specific personal or professional information with any AI system.
