Nvidia, AMD, and Intel showcase new AI chips in a bid for market supremacy during a high-stakes event in Taipei, reflecting the escalating competition in the semiconductor industry’s AI sector.

In Taipei, on June 2, 2024, three leading semiconductor companies—Nvidia, AMD, and Intel—unveiled their next-generation AI chips as they compete for dominance in the AI market. Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, announced the Rubin platform, set to launch in 2026, to follow the Blackwell, hailed earlier this year as the “world’s most powerful chip.” Rubin will feature new GPUs, a central processing unit called Vera, and advanced networking chips.

AMD CEO Lisa Su introduced the MI325X accelerator, available in the fourth quarter of 2024, and outlined a plan for continuous yearly product updates. Intel CEO Patrick Gelsinger presented the sixth generation of Xeon chips and the Gaudi 3 AI accelerator, which competes with Nvidia’s H100.

The surge in generative AI applications has driven high demand for advanced chips. Nvidia leads with about 70% of AI semiconductor sales, while AMD and Intel intensify their efforts to challenge this dominance.
