In October 2023, notable funding rounds for U.S.-based startups spanned various sectors, including computer vision, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and health care. Here are the top 10 significant funding rounds for the month:

  1. Metropolis, a Los Angeles-based computer vision parking startup, raised $1.1 billion. The funding was led by Eldridge and 3L Capital and included $1.05 billion through a Series C offering and $650 million in debt financing. The funds were used to acquire logistics firm SP Plus.

  2. Anthropic, an AI startup based in San Francisco and a rival to ChatGPT, secured $500 million from Google. This followed a prior deal with Amazon, potentially totaling investments up to $4 billion.

  3. Electric Hydrogen, an energy startup from Natick, Massachusetts, raised $380 million for its green hydrogen projects. Notable investors included Microsoft’s Climate Innovation Fund and BP Ventures.

  4. Main Street Health, based in Nashville, Tennessee, gathered $315 million to expand its value-based healthcare services in rural areas. The round was led by Oak HC/FT.

  5. Aiolos Bio, focused on asthma treatments, raised $245 million in a Series A round. Investors included Atlas Venture and Bain Capital Life Sciences.

  6. MapLight Therapeutics, a biotech firm developing treatments for neurological conditions, secured $225 million in a Series C round led by Novo Holdings.

  7. EVPassport, an automotive startup, raised $200 million from Northleaf Capital Partners to develop its app-free EV charging stations.

  8. Shield AI, specializing in defense and aerospace AI, gathered $200 million in a Series F round co-led by Riot Ventures and US Innovative Technology Fund.

  9. Headway, a New York-based mental health platform, raised $125 million in a Series C round led by Spark Capital.

  10. Iambic Therapeutics, a San Diego-based biotech firm, raised $100 million to advance therapeutics developed via AI.

  11. Island, a cybersecurity startup from Dallas, raised $100 million to enhance its enterprise browser.

  12. Pony.ai, an autonomous vehicle firm, obtained $100 million from the NEOM Investment Fund to develop autonomous vehicle technology in the Middle East/North Africa region.

  13. Prins AI, an AI startup from Lakewood, Colorado, raised $100 million for its AI digital identities platform.

  14. Stoke Space, a Dallas-based reusable rocket developer, raised $100 million in a Series B round led by Industrious Ventures.
