Sollum Technologies and Leaficient have joined forces to integrate precise plant growth data into dynamic lighting algorithms, aiming to optimise agricultural lighting strategies in real-time. The partnership promises increased yields, reduced costs, and enhanced efficiency in indoor farming through advanced data integration.

Sollum Technologies and Leaficient Collaborate to Enhance Agricultural Lighting through Advanced Data Integration

MONTRÉAL, June 11, 2024 — Sollum Technologies, the company known for its fully programmable dynamic lighting solutions, has announced a partnership with Leaficient, a leader in precision plant measurement and lighting control technologies. This collaboration seeks to integrate precise plant growth data into Sollum’s advanced algorithms to optimise agricultural lighting strategies in real-time.

Leaficient specializes in real-time 24/7 monitoring of plant production and health using computer vision technology. This involves detailed tracking of plant stress and photosynthetic capability at the leaf level. By customising lighting profiles based on this data, the partnership aims to improve plant growth conditions, leading to higher yields and reduced operational costs.

François R-Moisan, Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of Sollum Technologies, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating that combining Leaficient’s detailed plant metrics with Sollum’s SUN as a Service® (SUNaaS®) cloud platform will enhance the company’s ability to provide highly tailored lighting strategies. These strategies will adapt to the specific needs of different crops and cultivars at various growth stages.

Brian Stancil, CEO and co-founder of Leaficient, highlighted the importance of utilising plant performance and health data to determine lighting strategies. By leveraging Sollum’s dynamic lighting systems along with Leaficient’s measurement capabilities, growers will be able to achieve unprecedented control and efficiency in their operations, Stancil explained.

Leaficient, established in 2022 and headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, focuses on developing technologies that support the profitability and adoption of indoor farming. The company’s intelligent lighting control and analytics solution aims to increase yields and quality while reducing operating costs. Leaficient’s platform integrates with existing greenhouse lighting systems to offer adaptive light recipes based on a wide range of environmental and plant-based metrics.

Sollum Technologies, based in Montréal, Québec, since its founding in 2015, has developed the only 100% dynamic LED lighting solution that replicates the full spectrum of the Sun’s natural light. This solution is designed for use in environments such as greenhouses and research labs. Sollum’s offering includes internet of things (IoT) and AI-powered light fixtures managed through its SUN as a Service® cloud platform. The company emphasises energy savings and increased productivity as key benefits of its technology, which is scalable to meet diverse business needs.

The partnership between these two companies has the potential to set a new standard in precision agriculture by enabling more efficient use of resources like light and energy. As indoor farming technology continues to evolve, such collaborations could play a pivotal role in meeting the growing demand for sustainable and efficient agricultural practices.

This development comes amid increasing global interest in smart agriculture and technology-driven solutions to improve crop yields and agricultural efficiency. With climate change and resource scarcity becoming pressing concerns, innovations like those being pursued by Sollum Technologies and Leaficient could offer valuable tools for farmers and researchers aiming to optimise agricultural production.
