John Clark, Director of Star Refrigeration Data Analytics, will lead a webinar discussing AI-enabled, data-driven energy optimisation systems for cold chain operators. The session aims to provide insights into enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability practices within the cold chain industry, focusing on the Ethos AI-based system.

AI-Powered Energy Optimisation for Cold Chain Sector to be Discussed at Upcoming Webinar

June 10, 2024 – London, UK – Star Refrigeration is set to present a comprehensive guide on AI-enabled, data-driven energy optimisation systems for cold chain operators at a Cold Chain Federation webinar scheduled for June 11, 2024.

John Clark, Director of Star Refrigeration Data Analytics, will lead the session, which is titled “Reaching Net Zero with Cool Data: Monitoring Cold Store Energy Usage and Throughput.” The webinar aims to offer insights into enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability practices within the cold chain industry, which is responsible for the storage and transportation of perishable goods under controlled temperatures.

The focus of the webinar will be on Ethos, Star Refrigeration’s pioneering AI-based system designed to improve the performance of refrigeration and heat pump systems through advanced data analytics. According to Star Refrigeration, Ethos processes over 40 billion data points annually from more than 100 sites, identifying opportunities for energy savings and supporting companies in their Net Zero strategies.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to demonstrate at the Cold Chain Federation webinar how we extract value from data to provide real-world benefits,” Clark stated. He will discuss how data collected from refrigeration and heating systems is compared against a cloud-based ‘digital twin’. This simulation operates under the same conditions to identify gaps in energy performance, thereby enabling informed decision-making.

Clark’s presentation will cover key performance indicators (KPIs) such as energy consumption, specific energy consumption (SEC), and the use of regression models to account for weather and other influencing factors. He will also showcase how Ethos can pinpoint underperforming components, offering detailed data visualisation and allowing for ‘what-if’ analysis to advise on inefficiencies.

The session will highlight real-world applications of Ethos technology across various customer sites, including major retailers such as Asda, The Ice Company, and Tesco. These examples will illustrate how the system has achieved significant energy savings and reduced carbon emissions in these businesses, with Tesco reporting an average energy reduction of 11% across its estate.

The Cold Chain Federation, as the organiser of the webinar, supports businesses that operate within this critical supply chain by providing industry-specific research, advocacy, and training aimed at improving operational efficiency and sustainability.

Participants interested in the webinar can register through the Cold Chain Federation’s official channels. This event represents an opportunity for cold chain operators to gain practical insights into leveraging AI and data analytics for optimising energy usage and advancing towards sustainability goals.

For additional information about the webinar, visit the Cold Chain Federation’s website. More details on Star Refrigeration’s Ethos system can be found on their official site.
