ThinkSono, in collaboration with Butterfly Network, introduces a new AI training application for deep vein thrombosis detection, aimed at enhancing ultrasound skills of medical professionals globally using advanced AI algorithms.

LONDON, England — ThinkSono, known for its work in AI-driven medical imaging solutions, has announced the launch of its new AI training application for deep vein thrombosis (DVT). The ThinkSono AI Training app, developed in partnership with Butterfly Network, will be featured on the Butterfly Garden AI Marketplace, making it available to existing Butterfly customers who use iOS devices.

This new app aims to bolster the training process for medical professionals in conducting compression ultrasound scans to detect DVT. The application will be accessible in multiple regions including the United States, Canada, Israel, India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and parts of Europe. The training app harnesses AI to enhance the proficiency of medical students and clinicians using Butterfly Network’s handheld ultrasound probes, which are already being utilised by more than 145,000 users globally.

The ThinkSono AI Training app integrates advanced AI algorithms that aim to help medical professionals improve their ultrasound skills in real-time. This integration, according to ThinkSono CEO Fouad Al Noor, aims to “transform ultrasound training” by enabling practitioners worldwide to utilise AI technology and ultimately improve patient care.

Meanwhile, Butterfly Network, a company founded in 2011 by Dr. Jonathan Rothberg, is known for its mission to make high-quality ultrasound more accessible. The company developed the Butterfly iQ, a portable, semiconductor-based ultrasound device intended to democratise medical imaging. Butterfly Network has been at the forefront of making ultrasound technology more efficient and widely available, earning recognition from sources such as TIME’s Best Inventions and Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas.

Darius Shahida, Chief Strategy Officer & Chief Business Development Officer at Butterfly Network, described the launch of the ThinkSono AI Training app as a significant milestone. “We’re proud to partner with ThinkSono on this AI Training Solution that will play an important role in reducing barriers to ultrasound adoption,” said Shahida.

The introduction of the ThinkSono AI Training app to the Butterfly Garden AI Marketplace signifies a step forward in AI-driven medical education. The Butterfly Garden serves as a platform where healthcare professionals can discover and deploy various AI applications tailored to their needs. The marketplace has been designed to streamline the integration of AI technologies into the medical training ecosystem, making it easier for clinicians to enhance their ultrasound practices.

While the ThinkSono AI Training app is designed for educational purposes and not intended for diagnosis or clinical decision-making, it offers a crucial tool for improving ultrasound training. This comes at a time when handheld ultrasound devices are becoming increasingly pivotal in both clinical settings and training environments.

As the medical community continues to seek ways to improve diagnostic accuracy through innovative technologies, the partnership between ThinkSono and Butterfly Network could provide a valuable resource. It combines ThinkSono’s AI capabilities with Butterfly Network’s portable ultrasound technology to offer an enhanced training experience for medical professionals across the globe.

For further information, medical schools and healthcare providers can visit ThinkSono’s or Butterfly Network’s websites. The app’s availability is currently limited to iOS devices paired with Butterfly ultrasound probes, with the company planning further expansions as regulatory clearances allow.
