The United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, will list Israel and Hamas for violating children’s rights in conflict in the upcoming annual report to the UN Security Council. The report, which highlights parties involved in the “killing and maiming of children” and “attacks on schools, hospitals, and protected persons in relation to schools and/or hospitals,” will be released within a few weeks.

On Friday, Courtenay Rattray, head of Guterres’ office, informed Israel’s UN ambassador, Gilad Erdan, about the inclusion via a phone call, according to UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric. Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad are also included.

Israel responded with outrage, sharing a video of Erdan’s heated exchange with Rattray, purportedly during the phone call.

This announcement has stirred reactions, particularly given the ongoing tensions and incidents in Gaza, which have included deadly air strikes, birth complications amid bomb shelling, and increased miscarriages due to stress and lack of medical resources.
