The US Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission are joining forces to investigate leading companies in the artificial intelligence market, such as Nvidia, Microsoft, and OpenAI, for potential antitrust law violations. Regulatory scrutiny is intensifying as Nvidia’s market value soars and Microsoft’s recent AI ventures raise concerns.

The US Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have reached an agreement to investigate key players in the artificial intelligence market for potential antitrust law violations. This agreement targets Microsoft, OpenAI, and Nvidia. The Justice Department will focus on Nvidia, a leading AI chipmaker, while the FTC will scrutinize OpenAI and Microsoft.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the FTC is also looking into a recent deal between Microsoft and Inflection AI. This follows Microsoft’s $650 million deal to license AI software from Inflection and its hiring of Mustafa Suleyman to lead a new AI division.

Nvidia has recently surpassed Apple in market value, becoming the world’s second most valuable company, driven by its role in AI technology. Nvidia’s market value hit over $3 trillion, joining the ranks of Microsoft and Apple as the only US companies ever to reach this valuation. This surge in stock value underscores the increasing demand for Nvidia’s processors, critical for AI advancements.

These developments come amid heightened interest and regulatory scrutiny into the competitive dynamics of the AI sector.
