Salesforce, the US-based software giant known for its customer relationship management (CRM) software, has announced plans to open a new artificial intelligence (AI) center in London. This initiative is part of the company’s commitment to invest $4 billion (£3.1 billion) in AI in the UK over the next five years.

The new AI center will be located in the Blue Fin Building in Southwark, south London. According to Salesforce, the center will serve as an innovation hub, bringing together industry experts and businesses to advance AI technologies. The aim is to foster collaboration and provide essential upskilling opportunities for individuals.

Zahra Bahrololoumi, CEO of Salesforce UK and Ireland, stated, “AI has the potential to drive major growth for UK businesses, with the UK AI market predicted to reach over $1 trillion by 2035.” She emphasized the importance of industry experts working together to overcome obstacles and develop innovative AI solutions.

The announcement has been welcomed by London officials. Howard Dawber, Deputy Mayor of London for Business and Growth, highlighted that the city is rapidly becoming a significant center for AI businesses globally. Janet Coyle, Managing Director of Grow London at London & Partners, added that 77% of decision-makers at international AI companies see London as supportive of AI development.

Salesforce joins other tech giants like OpenAI, Microsoft, and Meta, which have also established significant AI operations in London. This announcement comes ahead of London Tech Week, starting on June 10, an annual convention promoting the city as a technology hub.

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, noted that London is becoming one of the most important centers for AI globally, with major investments from leading players in the sector.

This development underscores the growing importance of London as a global hub for AI innovation, offering significant opportunities for collaboration and economic growth.
