Explore the remarkable two-story library at OpenAI’s San Francisco headquarters, a fusion of Victorian aesthetics and cutting-edge technology, curated by employees and designed to symbolise the fusion of human creativity and AI innovation.

OpenAI, an artificial intelligence research company based in San Francisco, features a notable, two-story library in its headquarters, previously a mayonnaise factory. The library, evocative of Victorian reading rooms with Oriental rugs and shaded lamps, houses a diverse collection of books suggested by the company’s over 1,200 employees, reflecting both literary and scientific interests. Titles range from “American Prometheus” to “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” The library was established at the behest of Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO, and designed by SkB Architects. The architectural centerpiece seeks to encapsulate the amalgamation of human creativity and machine learning that drives OpenAI’s innovations.
