WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new generative AI feature that will allow users to create personalized avatars of themselves in various imagined settings. This feature was identified in WhatsApp Beta for Android 2.24.14.7 by WABetaInfo. Utilizing user-provided images and text prompts along with Meta’s AI Llama model, the tool will generate custom avatars.

The envisioned process requires users to initially take photos of themselves, which Meta AI will then use to produce likenesses in different environments, ranging from forests to outer space. Users will be able to request these avatars by typing “Imagine me” followed by a setting description in Meta AI chat or during any WhatsApp conversation by typing “@Meta AI imagine me…”

Examples released by WABetaInfo indicate that the generated images will be similar to those created by AI-based apps like Lensa AI or Snapchat’s “Dreams” feature. The feature will be optional and can be enabled in WhatsApp settings, where users also have the option to delete their reference images via Meta AI settings at any time.
